Balanced lifestyle
New Zealanders enjoy a healthy work life balance - some say the best in the world.

Most people who ring this office are not looking for a slogan. They have a job offer that does not quite match the ANZSCO code. A partner file INZ has already questioned. A student visa that expires in six weeks. Or a relative who has been unlawful for years and is too frightened to walk into a government building.
Immigration Matters is a licensed practice in Papatoetoe, not a call centre and not an offshore “agent”. Jag Sidhu holds a full Immigration Advisers Authority licence. He migrated here himself in 2003, worked as an Immigration New Zealand documentation officer from 2009 to 2014, then opened this office so families in South Auckland — and clients still overseas — could get advice from someone who has sat on both sides of the file.
If your situation is straightforward, we will tell you that and keep the fee honest. If it is not, we will say so before you pay for an application that should never be lodged.
Under the Immigration Advisers Licensing Act, only a licensed adviser or an exempt person (usually a practising lawyer) may give immigration advice. Friends, travel agents, and Facebook page “consultants” are not a workaround. If they get it wrong, you carry the refusal — and sometimes a ban.
Jagjeet Singh Sidhu (IAA licence 201400260) has held a full licence since 2 May 2014. He completed the Level 7 Graduate Certificate in New Zealand Immigration Advice and holds a Master of Commerce. Before licensing he spent eight years with India’s Central Bureau of Investigation, then five years inside INZ. That combination matters on the files that stall: he knows how an officer reads a job description, a relationship timeline, or a Section 61 letter, because he used to be the person opening the envelope.
The practice is Immigration Matters NZ Limited. Consultations are in person at 137 Kolmar Road, Papatoetoe, or by phone and video if you are in Wellington, Christchurch, Punjab, Manila, Suva or anywhere else INZ accepts applications from.

Visa services in Auckland — and for clients applying from overseas
Every file starts with the same question: which instruction actually fits this person, on today’s operational manual, not last year’s blog post. Policy moved again in 2026. If your adviser is still talking about the old six-point SMC as if nothing changed on 24 August, find another adviser.
The Accredited Employer Work Visa is now the main door into skilled work. The job check, the wage threshold, the ANZSCO match and the employer’s accreditation all have to line up. We prepare the worker’s application, Variations of Conditions when you change roles, and the supporting material INZ asks for when the job title on the contract does not look like the job title in the manual.
Residence is where people lose years by picking the wrong lane. From August 2026 the Skilled Migrant Category is no longer one points pathway. There is a points route, a skilled work experience route, and a trades and technician route, sitting alongside Green List Straight to Residence and Work to Residence. We map your occupation, wage, New Zealand work time and qualifications against the current lists — including red and amber occupations — before anyone pays an EOI fee.
INZ does not grant a partner visa because you are in love. It grants one when the evidence shows a genuine and stable relationship, usually with a shared life that can be documented. We build that bundle for Partner Work Visas, residence on partnership grounds, culturally arranged marriage applications, and the follow-up when an officer sends a PPI letter questioning the timeline.
A student visa is not just an offer letter and a fee receipt. INZ looks at funds, genuine intent, and whether the course makes sense next to your work history. When study ends, the post-study work visa is the bridge — and a poorly chosen course can close residence later. We say that before you enrol, not after.
Parents, siblings, and short-term business visitors still get declined when the bona fide story is thin or the sponsor’s documents are incomplete. We prepare visitor applications that answer the questions INZ actually asks: why now, why this length of stay, and what ties take you home.
This is a large part of the work, and it is the part template websites usually bury. If you are unlawful, a standard visa form will not be accepted. Section 61 of the Immigration Act 2009 is a request, not a right. We also lodge Immigration and Protection Tribunal appeals, respond to Potentially Prejudicial Information letters, and prepare Ministerial or special direction requests where the facts support it. No honest adviser can promise a grant. What we can do is put the strongest lawful case in front of the decision-maker.
